Objectives

Developing and testing a multi-stage fluid bed gasifier.

It is subdivided into three zones: pyrolysis, combustion, and reduction.

The gasifier is suitable for different types of biomass and can deliver a very low tar content producer gas.

Approaches

·       Biomass is heated in pyrolysis bed to produce char and pyrolysis gas.

·       Pyrolysis gas, that predominantly contains tar, is burnt in the combustion chamber

·       Char is fed to the gasification bed

·       Flue gas from combustion chamber is reduced in gasification bed to generate producer gas.

Outcomes

·       A unique gasification technology that can use various powder biomass: very high fuel flexibility

·       Tar content in producer gas below 1000 mg/Nm³, comparable to that of down draft gasifier system.
